/Hi!

Hi, I am Marco!

I live and work in Frankfurt. I grew up near Aachen. To this day, I still have a real love for Aachen’s speciality: the Streuselbrötchen.

Das bin ich!

I’m a designer. But really, I’m just someone who wants to understand how things work. How typefaces work. How a brand is created. How code and design interact.

I work as a Digital Art Director at hauser lacour in Frankfurt am Main, teach cross-media publishing at Aachen University of Applied Sciences, and am building this website myself on the side – more on that here.

When I’m not sitting at my computer, I’m out on my bike. Usually with too much luggage and a vague plan. Bikepacking has taught me that it’s okay not to have everything under control.

In my spare time, I enjoy photography – I’ve been doing it for just under 10 years. Do have a look at my photos.

My stance

That's what I'm convinced of

1

Users are at the heart of everything we do. Always.

I don’t design for myself. First, I listen: in workshops, during briefings, in conversation. Only by understanding the needs of the people who will be using a product can one design effectively. And only by asking uncomfortable questions can one arrive at sustainable solutions.

2

Aesthetics and function are not a contradiction

Really good design is both beautiful and functional. I adhere to established UX standards and consistently design with accessibility in mind. Both are really important to me.

3

Thinking in systems

I don’t design individual pages, but systems. Molecular design, intelligent components, automation where it makes sense. This saves time, ensures consistency and makes designs truly scalable.

4

From vision to finished product

I don’t see my work as merely providing a service, but as playing an active part in shaping it. I think beyond the obvious, have a firm grasp of the technical fundamentals of my work, and bridge the gap between design and code.
